Get Your San Carlos Airport Tour Started Today
Our guided tour program at San Carlos Airport turns the airport into a living classroom for schools, clubs, scouts, and community groups. Recently some photography class students from a local high school got a behind the scenes look at how pilots, air traffic controllers, airport ops, and local businesses work together to keep flights safe and efficient, complete with an escorted, as available stop at the Air Traffic Control Tower. Along the way, groups take in the 747 exhibit at the Hiller Aviation Museum, visit the bayfront levee for a great photo opportunity, and see a wide variety of aircraft up close, from trainers and vintage taildraggers to business turboprops and helicopters.
Beyond the “wow” factor, tours connect what you see on the ramp to broader community benefits, medical and public‑safety flights, access to the Coastside, small business connectivity, workforce development, and our Friendly Approach to noise aware flying. Visitors learn where run ups occur, how marshalling and fueling support safety, and how SQL and HAF contribute to San Mateo County every day.
Tours are offered by reservation and scheduled around active operations. All visits begin with a short safety briefing, are fully escorted in airside areas, and can accommodate many accessibility needs. Photography is welcome in designated areas; adult chaperones are required for youth groups, and closed toe shoes are recommended.
