A Regional Approach to Fire Safety

Training for Aircraft Fire Emergencies at San Carlos and Half Moon Bay Airports

County of San Mateo Airports’ operations staff attend live fire drills each year to enhance personnel and user safety. Although not required by the Federal Aviation Administration, live fire training for the airports’ emergency responders is an important investment to ensure they have the knowledge, training and expertise to safely respond to on-airport emergencies.

This year, airports’ staff hosted a training which was attended by Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) personnel from San Francisco International Airport (SFO). The training included in-classroom education and a live fire training exercise featuring a mobile full-size aircraft fire training system.

Airports’ staff were pleased to host this regional training exercise which ensured SQL and HAF emergency responders completed recurrent safety training and SFO’s ARFF personnel were able to fulfill FAA-required annual training.
